Fun Mathematics into the Community to Help Basic Mathematics Education
On April 30th, in order to enlightening children on mathematics and cultivate their mathematical thinking, the Applied Mathematics Branch of the Youth Volunteer Association of Chengdu University of Information Technology, based on the discipline characteristics of the college, orderly carried out the community volunteer service activity of "Interesting Mathematics into the community to help basic Mathematics Education" in Zhuqiao community. More than 20 children from different primary schools participated in this volunteer activity.
At the beginning of the activity, volunteers showed children magic "foresee the future", and stimulated children's interest in mathematics through magic. Children were actively participating in the magic and willing to cooperate with volunteers. Magic after the active atmosphere is composed of every 5 children's group to choose the topic to complete three small problems related to mathematics, according to the correct rate of each group to integrate. Mathematics is considered by many people to be difficult and boring. Although the children in each group have different ages and knowledge levels, they all discussed the topic with enthusiasm after they got it. The volunteers at the scene were also patiently explaining the topic to the children. After finishing the answer, each correct question will ask the corresponding group of children to explain. The children who explain are brave and generous, and the children who listen to the teacher are also trying to think about the topic of other groups. Everyone is immersed in the fun of mathematical thinking.
Next, the host introduced the chicken and rabbit with the cage problem. The children on the scene came up with two solutions and actively shared with everyone.
Then carried on the moving match game, in this game the small and medium-sized friends react quickly, often when the problem just came out there are children know how to move the match to make the equation. Finally, three outdoor games related to mathematics, each child actively participated in the game, cooperate with each other, here the game is mathematics, mathematics is a game. At the end of the activity, according to the cumulative score of each group in each game, an award ceremony was held for the children. They laughed happily when they got the certificates and prizes. This activity is successfully concluded!
The aim of this activity is to introduce wonderful and interesting mathematics to children and stimulate their interest in mathematics. In the eyes of volunteers from the School of Mathematics, mathematics as a basic subject is not necessarily abstruse, it can also be an interesting magic trick, some fun games. Mathematics itself is fun, and the volunteers hope to pass this fun on to the younger generation, to improve the children's interest in mathematics and enhance mathematical thinking.
